We are working exclusively with a privately owned property investment company with an exceptional portfolio of freehold assets across office, residential, hotel, retail and leisure sectors. With a significant presence in Canary Wharf and a reputation for operating high-quality properties, our client is looking to appoint an experienced Group Mechanical Engineer to join their high-performing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled maintenance professional to take ownership of the mechanical infrastructure across a diverse and prestigious property portfolio, working within a well-established organisation and a highly professional environment.

The Role

Reporting into the relevant head of department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical plant, equipment and building services.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant, systems and equipment.
  • Inspecting plant rooms and machinery and identifying potential faults before they develop into major issues.
  • Diagnosing mechanical problems using observation, testing equipment and precision measuring instruments.
  • Maintaining and repairing water, drainage and plumbing systems, including pipes, fittings and fixtures.
  • Supporting the maintenance of boilers, generators, HVAC and air-conditioning systems, water treatment equipment and associated mechanical services.
  • Ensuring all plant and equipment operates safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant regulations.
  • Responding promptly to breakdowns, equipment failures and malfunctions, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Repairing or replacing defective components and carrying out general mechanical repairs.
  • Scheduling and completing planned and preventative maintenance, including occasional work outside normal hours where required.
  • Monitoring equipment, parts and consumable stock and liaising with procurement and accounts teams as necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activity in line with company procedures.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and compliant working environment at all times.
  • Providing flexibility to support call-outs and operational requirements when necessary.

About You

Our client is looking for an experienced mechanical maintenance engineer with a strong practical background and the ability to work confidently across a varied property environment.
You will ideally have:

  • A BSc in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar mechanical maintenance role.
  • Strong experience maintaining boilers and plumbing installations.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical maintenance, particularly generators, water treatment, HVAC and air-conditioning systems.
  • Practical knowledge of welding, fabrication, plumbing, fitting and general mechanical repairs.
  • The ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Experience using maintenance management software.
  • A basic understanding of electrical installations and electrical drawings.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • The confidence to work independently while also contributing positively within a wider team.
  • A reliable, flexible and proactive approach to your work.

Working Hours & Package

This is a full-time, office-based position, working Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm.
The package includes:

  • £50,000-£65,000, depending on experience.
  • 25 days’ annual leave.
  • Private health cover.
  • 5% employer pension contribution, increasing by 1% each year up to a maximum of 10%.
